Patio Tree Roses have changed my opinion of tree roses in general. These regal specimens are more recent innovations in the rose world. Unlike the tall, fragile stems of regular tree roses, which require staking and special handling (pain in my opinion – especially in the midwest where I garden), these new types are hardier and easier to care for.
A tree rose is simply one that has been grafted onto a straight, sturdy, central cane so that it forms a bushy ball of blooms. The thick-stemmed Patio Tree Roses can be planted in containers (most only reach between 2 – 3 feet tall), enjoyed on your deck or patio, and stored in protected locations in sub-zero winter areas. I think they look great grouped with other mixed flower containers of varying heights.
Plant them among your other sun-loving flower faves for some height interest in your backyard, or use them in pots to welcome your guests to your front entrance in a royal manner.
