Patio Tree Roses: Top 10 Choices

Patio Tree Roses have changed my opinion of tree roses in general. These regal specimens are more recent innovations in the rose world. Unlike the tall, fragile stems of regular tree roses, which require staking and special handling (pain in my opinion – especially in the midwest where I garden), these new types are hardier and easier to care for.

A tree rose is simply one that has been grafted onto a straight, sturdy, central cane so that it forms a bushy ball of blooms. The thick-stemmed Patio Tree Roses can be planted in containers (most only reach between 2 – 3 feet tall), enjoyed on your deck or patio, and stored in protected locations in sub-zero winter areas. I think they look great grouped with other mixed flower containers of varying heights.

Plant them among your other sun-loving flower faves for some height interest in your backyard, or use them in pots to welcome your guests to your front entrance in a royal manner. I discovered some well-known hybrid tea rose varieties are now available in Patio Tree Rose form, including Peace, Chrysler Imperial, Mister Lincoln, and Rose Pope John Paul II …

My Top 10 Favorite Patio Tree Roses :

6. Knockout Series: Knockout Roses have set the standard for bloom color, size, and adaptability. Now, you can get the same characteristics in tree roses. Very disease-resistant and carefree. Just like their shrub cousins. Available in red, pink, and yellow. They grow 4′ – 7′ tall and are self-cleaning (no deadheading required).

8. April in Paris: A lovely, intensely scented, romantic rose. The blooms are a delicate pale-creamy pink edged in solid deeper pink. The large flowers last and last in a vase. Reaches 24″ and prefers medium-moisture, well-drained soil in a full sun location.

9. Monkey Business: This charmer boasts a candy-like licorice fragrance, bright yellow blooms, and a lovely abundance of flowers in large clusters. A low-maintenance, easy-to-grow tree rose that will add cheer to your garden setting.

10. Great Glory: The blooms are a gorgeous deep pink color that looks stunning against the dark green foliage—available in both 24″ and 36″ sized trees. The large hybrid tea flowers are 5-inches wide. Fragrant and heavy-blooming.

If you love roses, give a Patio Tree Rose a try. They’ve won me over!
